At Bumble, we’re dedicated to creating an app that’s as inclusive as possible for our community. We’re constantly seeking new ways to make sure your experience is both positive and empowering, whether you’re looking for a romantic connection on Bumble or a new friend on Bumble For Friends.
We partnered with the experts at GLAAD, a media advocacy organization advancing LGBTQ+ acceptance, to better provide a space that allows everyone across the gender spectrum to feel safe and seen. With GLAAD’s guidance, people can now share more about their gender identities and sexual orientations, enabling them to better express themselves in ways that reflect who they truly are. Whether you’re brand new to Bumble and just setting up an account, or you’ve used our app before but wish to change or expand how you identify, how you show up is up to you.
Now, when asked about gender either when registering for a new profile or updating your existing one, you can select man, woman, or nonbinary. Once a gender is selected, you’ll see a prompt saying “Add more about your gender.”
If you select Woman, then you’ll be able to choose from:
- Intersex woman

If you don’t see a gender option that fits you perfectly, you can let us know by tapping on “Tell us if we’re missing something” at the bottom of the list. Your gender identity can also be changed at any time, as many times as you would like. Once you pick what best describes you, you’ll be prompted to select whether or not you want to show your gender on your profile. This is totally up to you and what you’re comfortable with, and can be toggled on and off whenever you’d like.
You can also select the gender of the people you’d like to match with on Bumble Date. When joining Bumble, if you’re using Date mode, you’ll be taken to a screen asking you who you’d like to date. You can choose from men, women, nonbinary people, a selection of two options, or everyone on the app.
If you’re an existing member on Bumble Date, hit the gray hive logo at the bottom of your screen, and then select the filters button on the top right of the screen. The filters page will come up, and there you’ll be able to select the gender identities that you’re interested in seeing. Gender identities, sexual orientations, and filter preferences can be changed at any time, as many times as you’d like.
If you or your match are nonbinary, either person can make the first move on Bumble Date. Women make the first move in matches with men and, in matches between people of the same gender, either person can make the first move.
These updated gender selections are an essential step to help ensure everyone can express themselves and make safe, meaningful connections on Bumble. If you run into any snags when selecting your gender, our support team is always available to help you here. And if you have any feedback about Bumble’s expanded gender identities and sexual orientations —or thoughts on how we can make Bumble a more welcoming place—we’d love to hear.
