10 Outdoor Date Ideas for Warmer Weather
By Danielle Kam
One of the best things about the temperature warming up is that your options for fun dates exponentially expand. You don’t have to worry about snow, sleet, hail, or it being too cold to step outside, and you can say goodbye to the same cocktail bar you’ve both been to a hundred times. Here, 10 outdoor date ideas that are perfect when the weather’s good.
Go on a pizza crawl
Sample some highly-rated pizza spots or lesser-known shops you’ve always wanted to try and then rate each slice. You can do this with pretty much any food or drink: tacos, donuts—the opportunities are endless! Whatever it is, decide on something you both love and vow to find the best one.
Take a hike
A hike is a no-brainer when the sun’s shining. Whether you’re close to a trail or live in a city and need to take a train, lace up your sneakers and get your steps in. The endorphins will be flowing, nature will be calming, and you’ll have ample time to get to know your date even better. Oh, and don’t forget to bring some extra trail mix to share with your Bumble match.
Arrange a progressive dinner—al fresco
A progressive dinner is when each course (drinks, appetizers, dinner, and dessert) is served at a different house all in the same night. Given that it’ll probably just be you and your date, swap out the houses for local establishments. Plan for drinks at a rooftop bar, appetizers at a restaurant’s outdoor garden, dinner on your favorite bistro’s patio, and, to end the night, grab some ice cream or any dessert to eat in the park.
Plan a picnic
Picnics are a tried-and-true outdoor date. You can divvy up the supplies, where one person is in charge of drinks and the other is in charge of food. Or, for some more time with your Bumble match, make a whole day out of it and go to the farmer’s market to pick out your produce together.
Roll up to a drive-in movie
Even if you don’t have access to a car, you can still pull this off. Plenty of drive-ins offer lawn seating where you can pop down with a blanket and enjoy the film. If they allow outside food, bring your favorite movie snacks or takeout from your go-to restaurant.
Volunteer at a pet shelter
Animal shelters are always looking for extra assistance. Pick up a cute puppy and take it for a walk with your match. Just don’t forget to research which places require reservations beforehand.
Be a tourist in your own city
You may avoid popular attractions like the plague, but pretending to be a tourist for a day has its perks: you get to try something new with your date and bond over the shared experience. So walk a famous bridge, learn the history behind that statue you always pass on your way to work, or stroll around the botanical garden for the perfect outdoor date.
Visit a vineyard
If you and your date both happen to be wine lovers, head to your nearest vineyard to sample a few glasses in the sunshine. The atmosphere is ideal, the menu is already set, and you can connect over delicious vino. Not to mention, there’s usually cheese.
Attend an outdoor concert
Check your local listings for upcoming live music at an outdoor venue near you. You can also make this more of a last minute date: when the weather gets warm, you’ll find plenty of al fresco performances and festivals.
Lounge by a pool
While pool access can be hard to come by—especially in a city—you can still find a space to cool down with your date. Some hotels offer day passes or allow you to rent pool time for a few hours. Plus, if your match doesn’t turn out to be The One, at least you’re on a float, right?
