How to Be an LGBTQ+ Ally on Bumble
While we should all be loudly and proudly celebrating love in all its forms year-round, Pride Month is the perfect time to turn your support up a notch. Now more than ever, LGBTQ+ folks deserve the attention and support of straight and cisgender allies in order to feel safe, seen, and secure in the world. Here are a few easy tips on how to demonstrate your support through your Bumble profile.
Add Badges
A simple way to show you stand with LGTBQ+ communities is by adding Badges that show your potential matches what you’re all about. In celebration of Pride Month, we’ve released a handful of new Badges to add to our existing options. These include Badges that show your support for LGBTQ+ rights and trans rights, as well as Badges letting other Bumble members know you’re interested in Pride celebrations, drag performance, and LGBTQ+ nightlife. All of these Badges are an easy way to highlight your values and maybe inspire others to do the same.
Add your pronouns
Regardless of whether you’re cisgender, transgender, or another gender identity, including pronouns in your profile helps normalize the idea that gender isn’t always obvious or visible. Not only will people know how to address you, but they’ll immediately know that you care and respect peoples’ preferred pronouns, which is a huge green flag.
Communicate your values
Maybe you’ve added Badges and Pronouns already, but you want other people to know something more about your identity or allyship. Your Bio, Profile Prompts, and even your photos are a great way to elaborate on what equality means to you. Maybe it’s a photo of you at your city’s Pride parade. Maybe it’s a mention of how much you love going to drag brunch. Whatever it may be, we encourage you to be proud of your authentic self and demonstrate how you align with LGBTQ+ communities.
Swipe with an open mind
People are so much more complex and interesting than their appearance, sexual identity, or gender identity. You never know what you’ll have in common with a potential match until you get to know them! On Bumble, try to keep an open mind. And if you decide that someone isn’t a match, it’s never acceptable to send disrespectful or hateful comments—just swipe left and move on.
Let us know if someone’s using their profile to spread hate
Unfortunately you might encounter an unkind dater or someone who wants to spread hate on Bumble. We don’t allow homophobia, transphobia, bullying, or any abusive behavior on our platforms. If you see any such content on a potential match’s profile, or if they communicate something to you on or off the Bumble app that doesn’t adhere to our guidelines, please use the Block & Report feature. Our priority is always to help keep our community safe and feeling seen and supported.
You’ve heard it before and we’ll say it again even louder: Love is love. We’re so happy to have a community of kind people on our app who understand and support folks of all genders and identities. Some of these tips might not feel hugely significant, but trust us: your empathy and allyship go so much farther than you think.
