Tyler + EB’s story, as told to Bumble by the happy couple:
Dear Bumble,
It started with a swipe…
Just writing that gives me a bit of a knee jerk cringe, but as I sit here and think about it I find myself oddly emotional. I guess it’s the combination of the simplicity combined with the subtle nuance that is “Bumble” that leaves my eyes saturated with just a hint of joyful tears.
I have to start this off with saying, I NEVER considered myself an “online dater,” whatever that means. In some ways, meeting girls and going on dates came somewhat naturally to me. The issue was more about the quality of girl I was meeting. I wasn’t looking to settle down or even find a girlfriend, but rather simply go on a date and find someone that challenged me. Someone that I could connect with. Someone to verbally spar with. Someone funnier than I think I am. Someone that knew who they were as a person, but still looking to grow. But most importantly, someone that was just easy to hang with.
After reading that list of qualifications for a date, it even now feels like a pretty tall order. It was such a subjective criteria I had come to terms with the “fact” that I was never going to find someone that truly FIT, but rather settling for someone.
With only a witty intro line, “I trust you implicitly internet stranger. What should I give you first – blood type? Address? Social Security Number?” I was able to tell that EB was different. IT’S NUTS. It sounds f*cking nuts. I HATE text based conversations and STILL it was clear that she was something special. After a few exchanges via Bumble she trusted me with her number and we set up a date. I’ll never forget it. That date is burned into my brain forever and will likely be told to my friends, family, and likely future children until I die. And it would be impossible to tell without mentioning Bumble.
Grandchild: “Grampa, what is a dating app?”
Old me: “Well it was an application on your phone that you clicked to meet people online.”
Grandchild: “You mean you had to use your hands? That’s like a baby’s toy”
Whoa Ty…slow down. Still need to hit a few relationship steps before we get to that. Speaking of relationship steps, after over a year of EB and I dating, we are moving in together! As I fill out apartment applications I can’t stop thinking about that first intro line, “I trust you implicitly internet stranger. What should I give you first – blood type? Address? Social Security Number?” Just yesterday I was filling in her address and social security number into our most recent application.
All in all, I have met the woman of my dreams. Someone who challenges me. Someone I connect with. Someone to verbally spar with. Someone funnier than I think I am. Someone that knows who they are as a person but still looking to grow. But most importantly, someone that I want to share my life with. None of this could have happened without Bumble connecting us.
It started with a swipe.
