Bumble Success Story: Sarah + Paul

Sarah and Paul matched on Bumble on September 15th, 2015. Now they’re engaged! Check out the story in their own words below:

How long did it take to meet up after matching? What did you do for your first meet up/date?

Sarah & Paul: “We met up on September 26, 2015. We originally planned to meet up the week before, but Sarah got really sick and had to reschedule. She was excited for the date and worried that Paul would think she was blowing him off, but luckily rescheduling worked out! We went to Recess Beer Garden in LoHi for our first date.”

Sarah, what was the first message you sent on Bumble? Paul, what was your response?

Sarah: “Hey! How’s it going?”

Paul: “Hey, it’s nice to meet you. How was your weekend?”

How did this match feel different?

Sarah: “It was just so easy to talk to Paul. We had a lot of things in common and he came off like such a gentleman right away. I loved his initial response of ‘Nice to meet you’ – it stood out to me because it was so kind and down to earth. I knew immediately that he was a sweet man!”

Paul: “We immediately connected and I spent that whole first day laughing and smiling at my phone like a weirdo. We bonded over stand-up comedy and I was blown away that she’d never been to Comedy Works despite living here for almost 10 years!”

Sarah, what was your first impression of Paul? How did you feel before the first date?

Sarah:”My first impression was that he was so cute, and lived up to his kind personality by giving me a hug right away. We were texting on our way there and I told him I had just parked. He said, “Me too, race ya!” which made me more excited to meet him. (I love his silly personality.) Before the date I was so nervous that I had a full glass of wine to calm down. I laughed later when Paul shared that he had a whiskey before leaving his place, too!”

Paul, what was your first impression of Sarah? How did you feel before the first date?

Paul: “She was beautiful and was so cool and collected. I thought I was super awkward all night but apparently it was all internal. I was nervous before our first date and totally had a glass of whiskey before leaving the house. I left thinking, ‘Man, I am SO glad she’s not a two-headed man.’ We had a running joke the week before that maybe she was actually just a lonely, two-headed man with a sweet beard who was only pretending to be Sarah and had rescheduled our first date so as not to be found out.”

What do you each consider a unique aspect of your relationship now?

Sarah:”I think that Paul and I are alike in many ways but also very different. Our mutual respect for one another is what strengthens our relationship and keeps us close. We also do things to make sure that we are always keeping our relationship a priority: We have date night the first weekend of every month and ‘just because’ week the third week of every month. We do something nice for each other that week just to show kindness and love. It doesn’t have to be much – a sweet note, unloading the dishwasher, or a funny small gift – just something nice for the other person.”

Paul: “Sarah makes me a better person just by being in my life. This is a super rare quality and I have never felt that way about anyone else. I also love our differences. We bring pretty different perspectives to the table in a few areas and I think we’re both better off for it. We balance each other out and keep each other honest and challenge each other to see things in new ways and be more empathetic and understanding.”

Where are you now? Where are you headed in the future?

Sarah & Paul:We are now engaged and living together in Denver. We plan to stay in Denver, and our wedding is in April of 2018 in Estes Park! We’re so excited to be getting married and forever grateful to Bumble for being the match maker!
