Below is Chloe and Josh’s Bumble date and engagement story, as told by Chloe!
“August 6, 2016 started off a normal day. I woke up, did some chores, and sat down to check my Bumble account. On August 6, 2017, I will be marrying the man I matched with that morning.
All the quirks of Bumble led us to meet that day in 2016. Our first conversation went something like this:
Chloe: hi cutie 🙂
Josh: Hey there!
Josh: So not to be weird, but I could really use your tax expertise right now. I’m sitting at a coffee shop with my business partner and we’re struggling to fill out our tax return.
Josh: Also, Bumble tells me you’re only 1.4 miles away from me. If you come help us, I’ll buy you coffee!
After our coffee date:
Josh: I don’t think coffee was a strong enough token of appreciation. You should probably let me buy you dinner soon!
We’ve been close to inseparable ever since. From the 2nd date on, we both knew we had found our soul mates (something we never thought possible). Pretty early on, we started talking about a life together. (Seriously, Josh’s family took family pictures one weekend in September and it was a pretty awkward moment for us love birds. We basically had our entire future already picked out, but couldn’t take family pictures together because the family didn’t know I would be joining them in just one short year.)
In December, we decided to make it official and include our parents and siblings in our decision. We were worried about being lectured, but everyone was 100% supportive and excited. It definitely speaks volumes when both of your families know you’re meant to be!
Our wedding will be a quick turn-around, but we have our whole lives to continue learning about each other. Marrying Josh means he will never have a chance to leave me after realizing he’s out of my league. The real twist here? Josh feels the exact same way about me being out of his league.
I will forever be thankful for that ordinary day on August 6, 2016. Without Bumble and the Truman State University tax accounting department, I never would have found my way into the arms of this man.
What stood out about their profile: Of course I think Josh is probably the cutest guy out there, so that helped. 😉 He posted right in his bio that he doesn’t drink or party, and I really liked how open he was about that. I could tell he had firm beliefs and that was really attractive to me. My parents met on a dating website (back in the day) and I had in my bio “my parents met on a dating website so there’s hope.” He later said that was what ultimately made him want to swipe right. He knew I was interested in something serious and not just a fling.
The Proposal: In December, when we decided to tell our families we were planning on getting married, he took me ring shopping. We ended up finding a place to custom design my ring to blend our tastes. It’s the most beautiful ring! Since I knew the proposal was coming, he said he was going to do everything he could to still surprise me. I was sure he was wrong. One Friday evening, my best friend was coming into town from 4 hours away. She was in the process of moving back home and told me and our other good friend she was spending the weekend moving things and wanted to have a girls’ night.
We decided to go out for dinner and then downtown to hang out and dance. After dinner, one of the girls decided we should go home first and primp before going out. When we walked in the front door, Josh was standing there waiting for me! Instead of immediately knowing what was happening, I said “What are you doing here?” He put a blindfold on me and led me outside, where he had set up a makeshift alter out of Christmas lights. He got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him! Of course I said yes.”
Thank you so much to Chloe and Josh for sharing your story with us! We’re so happy for you – congratulations and so much love from The Hive!
