How to Use Bumble Filters to Find the Right Connections

Every time you open Bumble, there’s the potential for new, meaningful connections. But, of course, it’s important that your prospective matches are right for you!

This is where Bumble’s Filters come in. Our Basic Filters help narrow down your search so that the profiles you’re swiping through are people who match your non-negotiables. This allows you to choose who you want to date (men, women, nonbinary people, everyone, or a combination of these options), their age, their distance from you, and the languages they speak.

How do I set Filters on Bumble?

To specify those preferences, click on the gray hive icon to go to your swipe queue. Then tap the icon showing the two slider lines in the top-right-hand corner to open Filters. From there, make your selections.

You can also give yourself some wiggle room on the age, distance, and language filters. Just tap the toggle button under any of these fields and we’ll expand your preferences slightly if you run out of daters to see within your chosen range. Note: you can only filter by language if you’ve added at least one of your languages to your own profile.

Can you filter for anything else on Bumble?

Besides our basic filters, you can upgrade to our paid Bumble Premium subscription and access Advanced Filters to really tailor your dating pool to your preferences. These Filters include: verified profile, height, exercise level, star sign, education, dating intentions, religious identity, politics, whether they drink or smoke, and whether they have or want children. Advanced Filters correspond to the “More about me” Badges you can set on your own profile, so remember to add all your available Badges too in order to help increase your chances of making the right connections.

Just remember to only select the filters that are non-negotiable to you. This’ll allow you to potentially match with people who may not have every Badge you’re looking for (or who just haven’t added them to their profile yet!) but could still turn out to be a great connection.

Can you change the Filters you set on Bumble?

Don’t worry, if your dating interests or intentions change, you can edit these settings at any time. Simply head back to the Filters menu via the two slider lines icon in your swipe queue and adjust as many or as few Filters as you like.

Play around with your Filters and see who you find depending on how you’ve set them. Just remember to keep an open mind: you never know who’s just one year, one mile, or one swipe away.
