March Date Ideas

March Date Ideas

There’s no denying that March can feel a bit flat. It’s somewhat of a transitional period, a time in between winter and spring, where it may seem like the best of the year is yet to come. However, we beg to differ. After much research, we’re happy to announce—there’s more to March than you might initially think. Aside from the obvious St Patrick’s Day, and the extremely on-brand International Women’s Day, we’ve discovered a whole host of unique calendar moments to shake up the March dating scene. So with Spring on the horizon, bringing longer and warmer days with it, let’s get stuck into our eclectic list. There are plenty of March date ideas to get you inspired for your next Bumble match.

World Book Day, 2nd March

Not to state the obvious, but just so we’re all clear—this is the designated day for celebrating the magic of books across the globe. Primarily this provides school children with the opportunity to dress up as their favourite character, and whilst there’s nothing stopping you and your date from doing so too, our ideas are a bit more on the chill side. They say if you really want to get to know someone, you should read their favourite book (well, we say that, but it’s likely someone else more famous has too). Exchange these with your date, and then meet up to discuss them over a drink or dinner.

Another imaginative March date idea—if you and your date are true book lovers, why not take a joint trip to your local bookstore or library? Checking out new and old titles, discovering authors, and seeing what makes your date click, can be another great way to get a sense of who they are. If neither of you are avid readers, you could always watch the movie/TV adaptation of classic books instead—we promise not to tell WBD.

World Wildlife Day, 3rd March

Next up, we have World Wildlife Day. Whilst we’re not expecting you to jet off with your date on an exotic safari adventure (although if your finances allow, go for it), you can still use the day as a point of inspiration. Visiting a local farm or zoo makes for a great March date idea. Be sure to remember what your date’s favourite animal is—you can impress them with this knowledge later down the line.

If you want to take your passion for wildlife one step further, you could organise a volunteer session at a local animal shelter or nature reserve. Connecting with Mother Earth and the great outdoors could lead to the ultimate connection between the two of you—see what we did there? And if you’re both animal lovers, it could be a great time to discuss adopting a pet in the future.

National Day of Unplugging, 3rd to 4th March

OK, so this one may feel hypocritical of us to include being a dating app and all, however—we are increasingly missing out on the valuable moments of our lives due to technology. Whilst National Day of Unplugging doesn’t mean unplugging all of your home appliances in protest, it is about disconnecting and being present. A 24 hour period which runs from sundown to sundown, this initiative encourages all of us to put down our phones and embrace the IRL.

Once you’ve matched with your date and discussed a place to meet, see if you can both avoid checking your devices for the period you are together. This will mean that you really focus on one another and the conversations you’re having, rather than being distracted by constant notifications. And if you want to attempt the full 24 hour stint, even better. Just make sure to tell your friends and family that you're safe before disconnecting.

International Women's Day, 8th March

Women making the first move is kind of our thing, so of course International Women’s Day ranks highly on our date ideas for March. A whole host of events take place across the world in its honour, such as panel discussions, workshops and celebrations. Find one local to you and take your date—and of course make sure to tell everyone you met on Bumble.

Even if you don’t identify as a woman, IWD serves as an opportunity to educate yourself about how much more work needs to be done before the world reaches gender parity. We don’t exactly recommend giving out ‘Happy IWD’ cards, but if you are dating someone who identifies as a woman, think about how you can show your gratitude and make their life a little bit easier.

St. Patrick's Day, 17th March

In quite the vibe shift, let’s move onto Paddy’s Day. Not just for Ireland, Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated widely across the globe—we can’t help but wonder why. For more of a lowkey March date night idea, you could put together a spread of Irish food and drink to enjoy with your date. And if you want to dial up the traditional aspect, you could get crafty and make shamrock decorations or soda bread together.

On the flip side, if you’re both party people, you could dress up in the traditional greens, head out and join a local parade—maybe you’ll even find a leprechaun or a pot of gold. Nothing brings people together like the luck of the Irish!

Global Recycling Day, 18th March

We get it, this one might not sound like the most obvious date idea for March. But hear us out. Sustainability is more important than ever before, and this day could be used as an opportunity to not only do good for the planet, but also to come up with a unique date experience as well. Sign up to a local litter collection scheme, and you and your date can get to know other people in the community whilst cleaning up the area.

If that sounds just a bit too rough around the edges for you, perhaps your date could help you clean out your wardrobe. It’ll give you the opportunity to host your own fashion show, and things you no longer wear or like can be recycled at your local clothing bank.

World Sleep Day, 19th March

Just to be clear, we aren’t suggesting you should date people who send you to sleep. Nor are we trying to make cheap jokes. But why not use World Sleep Day to arrange a throwback-style sleepover with your date? Fill your living room with classic snacks, like popcorn and candy, cosy blankets, and maybe some scary movies for good measure.

You could even host it in the middle of the day, if you’re worried about your date getting the wrong idea. Alternatively, some museums and aquariums offer the opportunity to stay overnight, so if you’re really trying to flex, this could make for a super unique March date idea (probably best to check they’re into it first, to avoid surprises).

Spring Begins, 20th March

What a day to celebrate the end of winter, and welcome in spring! Truly wonderful. You and your date could head to a nature reserve or public garden to check out the multitude of flowers which will inevitably be on display. Taking a stroll in the spring sunshine and enjoying the great outdoors will put both you and your date in high spirits—you could even bring a picnic to share to make the most of soaking up the sunny rays. It’s been dark and cold for far too long, after all.

World Poetry Day, 21st March

If you are a wordsmith or appreciate the written word, World Poetry Day could be the perfect March date idea for you. Read any of the great works aloud through a megaphone under your dates window. Just kidding, but handwriting some of your favourite poetry as a love note to your date could provide a touch of old school romance. Alternatively, you could write some original material of your own—don’t be afraid to express how you feel.

World Water Day, 22nd March

This might not be strictly what World Water Day was intended for, but hey, here we are. You could use this calendar moment to suggest a swimming date. You and your date could head to the ocean (if you’re near one) or an open air pool to soak up the fresh spring air. If swimming isn’t yours or your date’s thing, you could always take a trip to the aquarium and observe sea creatures safely and dryly from behind the glass—exactly what the people behind WWD would have wanted.

Waffle Day, March 25

This celebration is native to Sweden, but we simply had to include on our date ideas for March list. Because everyone likes waffles, right? If you don’t have a waffle maker stowed away somewhere collecting dust, then head out to your local waffle house (or just a restaurant which serves them). You can find out if your date is a savoury or sweet person, which is of course invaluable knowledge for pursuing a future together.

World Theatre Day, March 27

Perhaps the ultimate in March date night ideas is a trip to the theatre. And what better excuse than World Theatre Day? Supporting the arts whilst showcasing your cultural know-how to your date is a win-win in our books. Go and see something totally off kilter for a thought-provoking experience, or stick to something more traditional that you’re both familiar with.

Either way, it’ll leave you with plenty of conversation opportunities afterwards. Top tip: don’t read reviews ahead of time and try to pass them off as your own opinion. Tempting as that may be, your date wants to get to know the real you.

Phew, there you have it—our extensive round up of March date ideas. Whilst all of these national days and holidays provide some truly sensational opportunities to get creative with your date ideas, don’t feel you need to do them. Dinner, drinks or a trip to the movies make for a great date the whole year round. We’re just here to give you some colourful inspiration and advice. We’ll leave you with a final fun fact to impress your date with—March the month was named for the Roman God “Mars”. On second thoughts, maybe keep that fact to yourself.
