S’mores date night
A good date night should always leave you wanting more. But a REALLY good date night should leave you wanting s’mores! This tasty fireside treat dates back to the early 1920s alike during their camping adventures. No one quite knows how it became known as ‘some more’ and then s’more, but it’s an invention that has spread around the world anyway.
It’s a simple recipe, just one graham cracker, broken in two with a little chocolate and toasted marshmallow in the middle. But is a s’mores night a good way to spend a romantic evening? Hello? Didn’t we mention the chocolate, crackers and toasted marshmallows? Of course, a s’mores night is a good idea for a date!
Here are our suggestions for a s’mores date night party for two, as well as some other ideas for dessert date nights.
Ideas for a s’mores bar
No matter what stage of your dating life you’re at as a couple, you’re never too grown-up or serious to not have some playful fun, preferably involving sweets and chocolates. That’s what a s’mores bar party is, after all.
You just need to gather together your ingredients and create some kind of safe fire to toast your ‘mallows on. Alternatively, a small kitchen blow torch could work if you want to focus on the flavors and the eating and less on the fireside experience (or if you live somewhere that you can’t go starting fires outside, like an apartment).
Some ingredients you could include:
- Chocolate bars (all kinds)
- Cookies
- Graham crackers
- Marshmallows
- Fruit like bananas and strawberries
- Chocolate spread
- Peanut butter
- Bacon
- Pretzels
- Coconut
- Spices like cinnamon and chili powder
- Peanut butter cups
Feel free to experiment with all kinds of options – that’s the fun of a s’mores bar party. Be creative! Turn it into a competition to see who can come up with the most adventurous s’more recipe.
An important thing to remember when hosting a s’mores night party is to make sure you’re being sensible with the fire (or the blow torch).
If you’re sitting outside in the wintertime, even around a fire pit or a BBQ, make sure to wrap up warm. And don’t forget that eating a whole load of s’mores is probably going to make you feel sick, so pace yourselves.
Of course, don’t forget that this is a date night, so be sure to relax, have fun and enjoy each other’s company. And who knows? You might invent a revolutionary new kind of s’more that will make you both rich and famous beyond your wildest dreams. Who could ask for more than that from a date night?
Dessert Date Ideas
This might all sound like a lot of fun, but what if you don’t actually really like s’mores? They’re not for everyone, after all, as they can be very sickly sweet (even if you include bacon). So we’ve come up with a few more dessert night ideas:
Baking night
Why not work together to bake something special? The best part is you don’t actually have to be good at baking because most of the fun of this date night is in the teamwork, the laughter and the inevitable mistakes. If you don’t end up with something edible at the end of it, who cares? You’ll have been eating the tastier ingredients along the way anyway and the most important thing will have been the fun you had in the process.
Chocolate fondue/fountain night
Remember when these were at every party or wedding reception you went to? Chocolate fountains and fondues admittedly can be a bit gross at events like those, but with just the two of you (let’s face it, swapping saliva hasn’t been a problem for you before…) it’s perfectly fine, incredibly tasty and lots of fun. You can even check out the list of ingredients for the s’mores night for inspiration for the kinds of things you might want to dip in the melted chocolate. And get your minds out of the gutter, we don’t mean anything like that!
Ice cream party
Everyone loves Ben and Jerrys and the wacky combinations of ingredients and flavors they sell, but could you do better? Why not buy yourselves an ice cream-making machine and have a go yourselves? Pick out your own combinations of flavors, make them, freeze them and try them out. The winning ice cream chef can get a special prize of their choice. As for what you do while you wait for the ice creams to freeze, well that’s up to you. It’s your party…
Be inventive
Have you ever had a chocolate pizza? It’s crazy, right? Eating a pizza that’s sweet and chocolatey! So why not put your brilliant minds together and try to concoct a new dessert that looks like savoury food, then try to make it? Will it be groundbreaking and incredible or will it be odd and taste like a dumpster fire? There’s only one way to find out…
Make a night out of it
Of course, dessert date nights don’t have to take place at home, you can go out and enjoy the best of what your local town or city has to offer. Swing by an ice cream parlor, hit up your favorite diner, or saunter to the dessert cafe everyone is talking about. The advantage to this kind of dessert date is that you get to walk off all that food on your way home so you can justifiably eat more of it… Makes sense right?
