This might be our favorite time of year for dating here at Bumble HQ. We love, love, love the fresh air, getting outside, trying out active dates, and meeting exciting new people. Here are some of our favorite date night (and day) ideas for spring.
Outdoor date ideas for spring
The best spring date night, in our opinion? It’s a spring date day! The weather is warming up, the flowers are blooming, and we’re all itching to get out of the house. Here are our preferred ways to make the most of the season and create a great date.
Head to the park
It’s simple but effective. Your local park is likely a treasure trove of dating fun, with walking trails, wildlife, ice cream stations (never too early), and outdoor activities.
You can keep it simple and take a walk in the park together with big coffees—you’ll get the opportunity to chat and get to know each other better, but it’s less intense than sitting at a table with zero distractions or conversation starters.
If your park is fancier than average, you might also find lakes for boating, nature reserves for spotting birds or animals, or even art installations to check out. Ultimately, heading to the park is pretty much our favorite outdoor spring date idea. You get fresh air, a chance to chat, and a way to explore your local area. It’s also a great first-date option—if you’re meeting someone for the first time, we always suggest doing it in a public place.
Borrow a dog (or bring your own)
Another great outdoor spring date idea. Already a dog owner? We’re jealous. You have everything you need for this date idea! Dogs are the perfect excuse to get out and get walking in the spring sunshine, plus they offer a built-in conversation starter if things are a little stilted at first.
No dog? It’s a hurdle we can all overcome. Plenty of websites, apps, and local schemes are popping up with the same key idea: borrowing a dog. Search online for what’s available in your area, and you’ll likely find potential puppy playmates whose owners are looking for an extra hand in giving them some exercise and playtime. Take the dog on the date and bam: instant conversation starter, plus you get an answer to the dog or cat debate.
Play mini golf
If you're looking for a spring date idea that's fun, easy, and will help you learn more about your date, mini golf is a great choice. It’s beginner-friendly, a fun way to spend an afternoon in the spring sunshine, and gives lots of one-on-one chatting time.
Plus, minigolf is a fun outdoor date idea that quickly gives you a better picture of your date: are they competitive? Taking it seriously? Or relaxed and just in it for a good time? This is why we love minigolf as a first or second date idea.
Walk on the beach
Spring beach visits are underrated. It’s often pretty empty and the weather is already generally good (although maybe not quite ready for sunbathing). If you’re lucky enough to have a beach within traveling distance, make this your next romantic outdoor date idea.
You might find a cute beachside café or restaurant, or you can take a long walk to collect shells and sea glass. Many beaches have an incredible view of the horizon, so you could try to time your date with the sunset or sunrise and enjoy the amazing vista.
As well as the standard snacks and drinks, think about bringing a frisbee or other outdoor game for two. If you’re looking to make a difference with your date, bring a trash bag and collect up anything that shouldn’t be there—the ocean wildlife will thank you. If spring date nights are more your thing
We get it—the 9-5 doesn’t leave much time for daytime dating. But, if making the most of those almost-warm spring evenings is more your thing, we’ve got some ideas to help you find that perfect spring date night idea.
Try an outdoor festival or concert
A spring evening is a good time to check out an outdoor festival or concert. Your local area may have a few different options. Look at venues like amphitheaters or parks, and make a note of the outdoor theater and music festivals coming up.
Some outdoor festivals or concerts let you bring in drinks and snacks, so plan to bring a picnic if you can. Remember comfortable shoes, a blanket to sit on if it’s a relaxed vibe, and a few layers for when the sun goes down. A perfect spring date night idea.
Experience a drive-in movie
Drive-in movie theaters are popular right now, so check and see if you’ve got a local one playing any classics. We recommend getting there early to get a good position for your car, bringing snacks, and dressing comfortably. Blankets are also a great idea, as those warm spring days can turn into colder nights. A drive-in movie is a romantic twist on your classic movie date—have fun with it!
Head to the bowling alley
reat for when the weather’s not so great. Also, in our experience, local bowling alleys have totally underrated food. We’re talking first-class pizza, burgers, tacos, sundaes, and churros—plus, you can never really know someone until you’ve seen their pizza topping order.
Just like mini-golf, playing a competitive activity is a great window into your date’s personality. You’ll get to know if they’re a good winner, a gloater, a sore loser, or just in it for a good time.
We hope these spring date night ideas have got you feeling ready to get out into the spring sunshine (knock on wood), top up that vitamin D where you can, and make the most of every beautiful day.
