August Date Ideas

August Date Ideas

August might be the last month of summer, but there’s still an endless amount of warm-weather dating opportunities up for grabs. (You can read more about summer date ideas here as well.) But aside from the festivals, the endless sunshine, and the good vibes, we’ve pulled together a list of key August date activitiesfor you to enjoy with your next Bumble match. We’re thoughtful like that.

National Girlfriend Day, 1st August

Want to kick off the month with a bang? Ask your date to become your girlfriend on National Girlfriend Day. If you’ve been seeing each other for a while, this might be the push you need to make things official. There’s no need to go overboard, but making the most of the sunshine and pulling together a picnic of her favorite foods is likely to seal the deal, in strong August date fashion.

National Day for Play, 2nd August

OK, so strictly speaking, this is to celebrate the importance of play in children’s lives, but we think it’s just as important for adults too (and makes for a great August date idea). While you may be too old to jump in a bouncy house, there’s nothing stopping you from hitting the local theme park. From roller coasters to Ferris wheels, this is a day out that will satiate the appetite of any big kid. Make sure to treat your date to cotton candy after riding the roller coaster.

International Owl Awareness Day, 4th August

Is it just us, or are owls kinda underrated? Use this day as inspiration for an unexpected, yet fun August date idea. Scour the internet to find a local bird sanctuary or zoo with the best selection of owls and birds. See how many breeds you can spot and find out whether or not they’re endangered. This is a fun and educational way to spend an afternoon with your date, if you’re both animal lovers.

International Beer Day, 4th August

More into beer than birds? You’re in luck! August 4th also happens to be International Beer Day. To make this a perfect August date opportunity, hunt for a local brewery with great outdoor seating. Take your date and get ready for the ultimate taste test. Just make sure neither of you are driving home afterward, of course.

International Cat Day, 8th August

For many feline lovers, this is a serious holiday—and an ideal calendar moment to introduce your August date to your four-legged friend. Don’t have a pet? Why not visit a local cat shelter and hang out with some strays. Better yet, you could volunteer at an adoption event. You may end up going home with one, if you’re lucky.

National Book Lovers Day, 9th August

While books may not instantly make sense for an August date idea, just remember—you can read outside. In fact, it’s probably better than reading inside. You and your date can hit the local park and enjoy some alone-together time, reading your paperbacks side by side or sharing passages from your favorite novels. If the weather isn’t up to scratch, take a look at our list of ultimate bookstore dates instead.

International Coworking Day, 9th August

Also falling on 9th August is the revered International Coworking Day. Now, we know what you’re thinking—not the most romantic of August date ideas. With most of us working remotely these days, though, why not seize the opportunity to invite your date over for a coworking session? You can spend the day as colleagues while you both WFH—and even take a long lunch break together. You could also venture to a coffee shop or cafe if you don’t have the space at home. It’s the modern-day equivalent of locking eyes over the photocopier…

World Elephant Day, 12th August

Sure, jetting off to Africa for a safari to see elephants in the wild would be the ultimate way to celebrate this holiday…but we’re thinking a visit to your local zoo is a more feasible option. An alternative August date idea is to bring the elephants to you. You could surprise your date with a thoughtful gift of sponsoring an elephant in their name (while also doing good for the planet). Or simply use World Elephant Day to spend an evening watching nature documentaries together.

National Bowling Day, 12th August

If you aren’t an animal lover, then you’re in luck, because 12th August also marks National Bowling Day. What better excuse to hit your local bowling alley as a timeless August date. Sodas, hot dogs, and strikes all round.

National Relaxation Day, 15th August

Who isn’t in desperate need of some relaxation? National Relaxation Day provides the perfect excuse to schedule some R+R. Whisk your date off for a romantic spa day, or organize one at home. Disconnect from your devices, and truly connect with one another.

National Fajita Day, 18th August

Time to get spicy! Take your date to your favorite Mexican restaurant in honor of National Fajita Day. Or, if you really want to impress them, cook fajitas at home without using a ready-made kit. Those who make tortillas together, stay together—as the saying goes.

World Photo Day, 19th August

This is an August date with high romance potential. Frame a favorite photo of you and your date, from one of your most special moments together, and surprise them with it as a gift on World Photo Day. Alternatively, you could spend the day making a photo book together, collating all of the wonderful memories you’ve made so far. Or, if your relationship is in the early stages, maybe it’s time to hard launch online with that all important selfie.

National Radio Day, 20th August

You’re probably thinking Who listens to the radio anymore? but that’s the point! Embrace the power of the FM dial by blasting one of your favorite retro stations—preferably in the car. It can provide the perfect soundtrack for a romantic road trip date…or provide a lot of laughs. If you’re keeping things local, tune in at home and create a private dance floor. Find a thrill in not being able to control what song’s coming up next.

World Plant Milk Day, 22nd August

The one we’ve all been waiting for: Finally, a day dedicated to delicious dairy alternatives! (Seriously, there’s a day for everything.) You and your date could make each other your favorite plant-based drinks at home, or you could hit up your local smoothie or coffee shop and dare one another to try something new (we’re looking at you, cashew milk). Live life on the edge this August!

Virgo Season Begins, 23rd August

Running until September 22nd, the end of August marks the start of Virgo season. If you or your partner are a Virgo, why not celebrate? Typical Virgo celebrations include folding laundry, color coding paperwork, and trying to fix everyone around them’s emotional issues. Enjoy!

National Beach Day, 30 August

We love the beach, you love the beach, everyone loves the beach, right? Not that you need an excuse, but it would be rude to not go to the beach on National Beach Day. Read more ideas for beach dates here

So there you have it, an exhaustive list of fun August date ideas. We’re sure you can’t wait to go owl watching, drink a variety of plant milks, and dance to the radio. Now just imagine what September will have in store…
